 I never fully felt like I belonged in STEM until graduate school, when I completed my PhD with the first Black scientist I'd met - my gradate advisor, Dr. Juliet Daniel, with whom I co-lead this initiative. The McMaster Imhotep STEM Enrichment Program (MacISTEP) is an initiative I wish I had as a young aspiring scientist. MacISTEP offers an afterschool STEM club during the Winter term, and a full-week immersive experience during the summer where students live on campus and engage in various STEM activities.  Ultimately, we hope that by participating in MacISTEP, students feel a greater sense of belonging and are encouraged and inspired to pursue STEM. 

Lotus STEMM is a grassroots non-profit organization that provides mentorship, networking, and outreach activities for South Asian women and girls in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine. I was actively involved in this organization 2018 - 2022, and I continue to be a reverent supporter as an ex officio board member. I encourage all student (especially those belonging to South Asian backgrounds) who looking to be involved in a worthy cause to learn more!
